2019 Summer Interns — Hit the Ground Running

From the July 2019 Lessiter Link newsletter

We've got a full house of interns this summer who have proven to be a strong and hardworking bunch. The group comes from colleges across the midwest.

Betsy Barthelemy is an editorial intern for the Ag Division and is a junior at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. She's working toward her BA in English Literature with minors in Anthropology. "It's hard to believe how much hands-on work I'm trusted with. I've written a ton of content and edited even more, worked with several different programs and even interviewed a few executives in Canada. I have friends dong other internships right now who are making copies all day — I'm much happier to write copy."

Kathryn (KC) Hubbell is a marketing intern and graduated in May from UW-Milwaukee with a BBA in Marketing. "I've learned more at LM than I have during my 4 years of college. It's great to work for a company that is dedicated to developing their interns and trusting them with meaningful work. Working here has allowed me to explore many areas of marketing, including print, digital and events. LM is the perfect place to find what area of marketing you'd like to pursue in the future."

Jonny Salinas is the business development intern, working closely with the Audience Development and Marketing Depts. He graduated from UW-Milwaukee in May with a BBA in Marketing. "LM is my first internship and my first real office experience. I don't think there has been one day where I have not learned something new. LM has been incredibly kind to me, and its wonderful staff have shown me nothing but respect and a feeling of belongingness. As an intern and one of the youngest and most inexperienced members of the team, every single person — whether it be other interns, my marketing managers or the senior level leadership — has reiterated that we are a team and they can be approached at an time with anything you might need."

Rebekah Lindner is a graphic design intern in the Art Dept. She graduated in May from Waukesha County Technical College with a Graphic Design Associate of Applied Science degree. "So far, this internship has been of more value than any school experience. I have learned so much about design software, such as tools and techniques and ow important details are. My biggest take away is how fast paced a media company is and how it relies on everyone to do their best work while having an optimistic attitude, everyday."

Melissa Martincich is a marketing intern who graduated from UW-Milwaukee in May with a degree in Marketing. "I learn a million new things each day working here. The staff is the friendliest I've worked with by far and I feel truly comfortable asking questions, which is why I am able to learn so much. In my short time here, I've already gotten to be a part of many exciting projects, and I can't wait to start on the next."

Brennan Wilson is a digital media intern and a senior at Valparaiso Univ. in Indiana. "LM has welcomed me with open arms. Everyone I have met has been incredibly friendly. The goal for LM's internship program seems to be all about what LM can do for me, compared to other places where the focus might be more about what I can do for the company. It really is a change of pace here. LM's members hold this philosophy in hopes that appropriate and superb experience is what interns gain. They believe and practice this because it works. In providing interns appropriate experiences, it will, in return, benefit the company by creating a positive, fulfilling and prosperity-bearing work environment."

Jeff Wardon is an editorial intern for the Ag Division, working specifically on Ag Equipment Intelligence and helping with research work. He's a junior at UW-Whitewater, majoring in English Professional Writing and minoring in Advertising. "I've learned about the editorial process, how to edit my own writing and how to do data mining."
